Windows 10 Tutorials-Page 01

When Microsoft released Windows 10, there was the usual outcry of comments about all of the changes and it took a while for users to get used to it but, most seem to have now accepted the changes as beneficial.
In this series of tutorials, I am going to try and smooth out the time it takes to learn about the changes and all those new features that we will all have to learn.

I am not claiming to be an expert on this software, I am on a learning curve too! However, as I teach myself about this latest incarnation from Microsoft, I will pass on the knowledge I gain to anyone who would like to join me on this journey, by writing a set of tutorials that I hope will help you all to understand some of the complexities of Windows 10.

Download a 3 page sample and see for yourself and then, if you like what you see, please go to the Contact Me page and email me with the number and name of the tutorial(s) you would like. I will then email the pdf(s) back to you as soon as I can.

All my tutorials are completely free and you are very welcome to use them as you please.

01 - How to Create a Recovery USB drive for Windows 10

After Microsoft released the Windows 10 operating system, the internet has been inundated with a multitude of video tutorials on how best to make use of this new OS. I found some of them to be very useful but, it annoyed me to have to keep pausing the video in order to make some notes.

If you are already a user of Windows 10, you will be aware that having a recovery USB is a must have in your recovery tool box for when things go wrong. So, I have written this small pdf tutorial to help you create your own usb recovery drive.

02 - How to turn off adverts that show up in Windows 10

Windows 10 is a great program but, Microsoft seem to want to know far to much about how you use your computer, so much so, that the 'Privacy' settings are mostly set to ON by default. In particular you may find a multitude of adverts displayed on your monitor (usually at the most awkward times) That is problably not going to meet with your approval so, this tutorial will show you how to configure the privacy settings so that those pesky adverts are turned OFF.

03 - How to assign a Drive Letter and stop it from changing

One of the frustrating things about Microsoft Windows 10 is the fact that, whenever an external drive is plugged in to your computer, the Disk Management system will allocate the next available drive letter to that drive. If this drive is then unplugged the allocated drive letter then becomes available again and will be allocated to the next drive that you plug in.

This means that if, like me, you have a number of USB drives that are used at different times, i.e. you plug them in only when you need to use them, the drive letter will keep on changing. This can be very inconvenient especially if you use a particular drive for a specified reason, e.g. for you backups.

You can solve this problem by configuring each drive to have a permanent drive letter that will not change, even when you remove the drive from your computer.

This tutorial will show you how to achieve this.
